Chasetown U10 Colts (2008/09) 0
Boldmere Falcons Sports 5

A game of two halves was certainly the case today as Chasetown Colts were again in Cup action, this time entertaining Boldmere Falcons Sports, leaders of Division 3. The weather was fine and sunny after a frosty start.

The first half was very evenly fought, with Chasetown spurning a great chance to take the advantage in the game after they were awarded a penalty kick after Dominik Russell had been brought down in the bo.x Thomas Anelli stepped up to take the kick and it was brilliantly saved by the Boldmere keeper low to his right hand side. Both sides had chances to break the deadlock but both sides turned round for the second half goalless.

In the second half it was a different story altogether, as Boldmere played superbly well and ran in five goals, Chasetown just could not cope with the speed of the opponents attacking play. For a few minutes Colts heads did drop but to their credit they did battle back and showed some fighting spirit and had some chances of their own towards the end of the game, Charlie Mellor going very close with a long range shot which skimmed the top of the goal frame, but Boldmere fully deserved their win.

This was a disappointing result for the Colts, but sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and accept that the other team were superior on the day. They really needed a performance to match that of the previous week against Beacon Colts from Division One, but for whatever reason this was not the case today. In the first half Chasetown were very good and with a little luck could have been in front at the interval, but once the first goal went in it was an uphill struggle.

It has to be said that there were some below par performances today and in the 7 a side game you will struggle unless every outfield player is giving 100% and closing down the opposition. Once again we were guilty of trying to walk the ball into the net, Boldmere on the other hand were much more clinical in the box and their speed in getting there was decisive on the day. On the positive side there were some very good performances, Lewis Harvey in goal was awarded the MOM from the supporters once again following his magnificent display against Beacon Colts the previous week, and again today he was excellent, making some fine saves but all it did was keep the score down. There were also good performances from Saul Fussell, Fabian Smith, Thomas Anelli and also Charlie Mellor.

In conclusion, very well done to Boldmere who have beaten us for the third time this season, and in all fairness deservedly so as well, they are indeed a fine team. Next week we go to 2nd Division Brereton Town in the Cup and the boys are going to have to draw on all their reserves for this game.
